Beyond the Field: How Women’s Lacrosse Builds More Than Athletes
Women’s lacrosse is a dynamic and rapidly growing sport that combines athleticism, strategy, and teamwork in a uniquely engaging way. Having played for four years, my passion for the game has only deepened over time. Even as an adult, I continue to follow the sport closely, inspired by its evolution and the empowering community it fosters.
Unlike men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse focuses more on skill, speed, and finesse rather than physical contact, making it a fast-paced and really technical game.
Players must develop exceptional stick handling, precise passing, and strategic positioning, which requires not only physical ability but also mental agility. Because the sport really focuses on discipline and coordination, it’s a great way to build leadership and teamwork skills that come in handy both on and off the field.
Playing lacrosse myself really helped me appreciate the unique culture around the sport. The teamwork, support, and dedication among players create a strong sense of community and belonging. Even now, as an adult watching the game, I’m constantly impressed by the skill and passion of today’s athletes, many of whom juggle tough academic and professional schedules alongside playing lacrosse.
Women’s lacrosse demands both physical skill and mental toughness, teaching important lessons in perseverance, strategy, and confidence. The sport’s growth mirrors bigger social changes that celebrate and recognize women’s achievements, not just in sports but in all areas.
By supporting and promoting women’s lacrosse, I believe we’re helping both the sport and the empowerment of women everywhere.
One Girl, One Dream: Whatever It Takes
Three letters. I have a short name, Ria. It’s small, but I have big dreams and even bigger plans. I’m a student from Maryland majoring in Advertising, with a strong passion for media, sports, and the creative industries. I bring experience in social media management and have worked on team-based creative projects, while also thriving independently when needed. I'm outgoing, passionate, and deeply driven by a strong sense of community.
My ultimate goal is to work in college athletics, specifically basketball or football at a Power 4 school, helping shape the stories, brands, and experiences that build fan loyalty and school pride. I also have a strong interest in working in the entertainment industry, whether it's film, television, or a creative environment like SNL, where I can use my storytelling and branding skills to connect with audiences in meaningful ways. I want to be a leader who blends creativity, strategy, and storytelling to bring both sports and entertainment to life in bold and exciting ways.
By building my personal brand, I’m not just networking, I’m creating a career path that reflects exactly who I am: driven, imaginative, and ready to lead.
This is more than ambition, it’s purpose. And I’m just getting started.
